Buglawton's Big Eco Adventure!
Eco Ministers
We are very proud to have been successfully awarded our Green Flag for our continued efforts to drive an eco-friendly ethos throughout Buglawton Primary School.
A Green Flag award is dependant on the successful implementation of the 'Seven Steps to Green Flag Success'. We endevour to ensure these seven steps form an essential part to our Buglawton Curriculum and daily life at our school. Our on going targets and future actions can be found alongside lots of further information on our Eco Display board outside our school office.
Making a difference to pupils' lives...
"The Eco-Schools programme provides a unique opportunity that empowers pupils to lead change within their school and have a positive impact in their wider community. The programme encourages pupils of all ages and abilities to work together to develop their knowledge and environmental awareness. Independent research into the Eco-Schools programme in England found evidence of the positive impacts on pupils, including increased confidence, development of leaderships skills, improved pupil well-being and behaviour and greater motivation at school".
Our Eco Activities:
During the academic year of 2023-2024, we worked hard to reduce the amount of litter found around our school grounds. We switched to healthier snacks which reduced the amount of packaging we took outside at breaktime, the Eco Council delivered an assembly about litter to the whole school, and we completed several litter picks around our school grounds.
Our garden has continued to develop and grow. Each class can now grow the foods they need for their Design and Technology lessons. Crops for the academic year 2023-2024 included apples, blackberries raspberries, strawberries, potatoes, onions, red onions, tomatoes, broad beans, peas and butternut squash.
Our wonderful polytunnel has been installed in the garden which has lengthened our growing season and given us a space to grow crops such as tomatoes.
We are now lucky enough to have a pond which provides a habitat for a variety of wildlife, and supports the children's learning in subjects such as science. This has boosted wildlife biodiversity in our school.
Eco Ministers:
Our Eco Ministers can be spotted around school wearing their Green Eco Minister Badges. If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions for your Eco Ministers to discuss at our future meetings, please pop over and have a chat.

Our Eco Ministers have been busy making a difference!
On 6th October, they led an inspiring assembly all about waste and recycling. The team shared important messages about how we can all play our part in caring for the environment and reducing what we throw away.
They are now on a mission to introduce recycling bins throughout the school and to install larger outdoor bins that can be collected and taken to recycling centres. The Eco Ministers are also looking at ways to reduce food waste, encouraging everyone to take only what they’ll eat and think carefully about how we can all help make our school greener and more sustainable.
