Our Mission

In the Early Years at Buglawton we believe in providing children with a safe and stimulating environment where children can achieve our motto ‘Be the best we can.’

We pride ourselves on listening to children and those who care for them and using this information to personalise each child’s learning. Learning should be fun and we strongly believe in first hand learning, valuing the importance of the outdoor environment to develop children’s thinking and problem-solving skills.

Recognising that every child is unique, we ensure all children have the opportunity to develop and learn in a safe and nurturing environment where play and learning is combined. Through practical learning experiences, we strive to equip children with a love of learning and a natural curiosity. We are committed to giving our children the best possible start to their school life, teaching them skills which ensure their well-being now and success in the future.

Preschool is a wonderful time for your children to immerse themselves in new and exciting opportunities and experiences. We hope that by developing secure relationships with both our children and parents we can build on children's interests and recent experiences, creating a vital home-school relationship. We aim to respond to and enhance children's learning opportunities 'in the moment'. This approach ensures children's natural curiosities and ideas can be discovered with the support and encouragement of skilled practitioners and supports our whole-school vision to create curious, life-long learners.

The Early Years Curriculum

Playing, exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically are all essential building blocks crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. This is also vital for building their capacity to learn to form relationships and thrive. The EYFS is based around four themes, each of which is linked to an important principle.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum where the ‘Seven Areas of Learning and development’ are an integral part of each day. By the end of Early Years Foundation Stage, children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals. These goals cover every area of learning and state what the children should know and can do by the end of the reception year.

At Buglawton, we embrace the definitions of the ‘Characteristics of effective teaching and learning’, which we feel embodies our approach to learning.

They will enjoy a healthy snack (provided by Preschool) with their friends and will be invited to participate in an adult-led activities, such as 'understanding the world.' We believe our learning environment is the 'second teacher' and work hard to ensure our environment is enhanced following our children's curiosities. We drive this curiosity by embedding open-ended resources and 'real life' objects into our provision such as china tea sets and typewriters! The resources within our provision provide opportunities for multiple outcomes across the 7 Areas of Learning and Development. We believe that children can still explore a theme, not through set activities but through carefully selected resources. Children are given the opportunity to choose what or where they would like to play.
